Roi Et

Northeast · suggested 1-2 days

Roi Et is a culturally rich, charmingly laid-back city and province located in the heart of the Isan region (northeastern Thailand). The name "Roi Et" literally translates to "101" in Thai. This stems from the city's ancient history when it had 11 vassal states and 11 city gates. Written in old notation, "10 plus 1" eventually evolved into the symbolic number 101. Fewer western tourists visit Roi Et compared to Thailand's major hubs, making it a perfect destination to experience authentic daily Thai life, beautiful regional architecture, and local Isan hospitality.
