From the terminal to your hotel
Every Thai airport has an official taxi rank, with a meter or a posted airport rate. The traps are the touts inside the terminal offering a "taxi" with no meter, and the unofficial drivers at the kerb. Book at the counter or in the app and you will not overpay.
Pre-booked transfer
700–1,200 ฿ to Bangkok, 500–900 ฿ to the beaches
A driver waits in arrivals with your name, the price is fixed before you fly, and it is the calmest choice for a late arrival, a family or a lot of luggage.
Shared van or ride-hailing
150–250 ฿ per person in a shared van
Shared minivans run to the beach towns and islands for a fraction of a taxi. Grab and Bolt pick up from marked zones — check the pickup point in the app before you order.
Avoid the traps
- Ignore anyone inside the terminal who asks where you are going and offers a taxi. The official rank is outside, signposted "Public Taxi".
- Agree the fare, or check the meter is running, before you set off. In Bangkok refuse a flat price and ask for the meter.
- Keep small notes. Drivers rarely have change for a 1,000 baht note, and tolls are paid in cash.
- At Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, public taxis leave from level 1 of the terminal; at Don Mueang they wait outside the arrivals hall.
- Save your hotel name and address in Thai on your phone — it saves a lot of confusion at the end of the ride.
Fares are typical ranges in Thai baht and rise with distance, traffic and night surcharges. Always confirm the price or the meter before the car moves.
