Narathiwat

South · suggested 1-2 days

Narathiwat is Thailand's southernmost province on the Gulf of Thailand coast. Located approximately 1,140 kilometers south of Bangkok, it borders Yala, Pattani, and the Malaysian states of Kelantan and Perak. The province covers 4,475 square kilometers, 75% of which is comprised of lush jungles and rugged mountains. Narathiwat features a unique multicultural identity, where roughly 80% of the population is Muslim and primarily speaks Patani Malay. The official name means "the residence of good people," though it was historically known as Menara or Manalo.
