Chiang Mai taxis & ride-hailing

Ride-hailing apps

What each service covers and what a city trip costs.

Grab

24/7 · citywide
Car: 60 – 200 ฿ Bike: 30 – 80 ฿

The most reliable app here — cars and bikes with the fare fixed before you book.

Bolt

24/7 · city & airport
Car: 50 – 160 ฿ Bike: 30 – 70 ฿

Usually the cheapest app in Chiang Mai; waits of 5–15 minutes are normal.

inDrive

24/7 · citywide
Car: 45 – 150 ฿ Bike: 25 – 70 ฿

You propose a fare and drivers accept or counter-offer.

LINE MAN

24/7 · citywide
Car: Meter + ~20 ฿ Bike: 35 – 80 ฿

Calls a metered taxi or motorbike through the LINE app.

Red songthaews and metered taxis

  • Red songthaews (rot daeng) are the local shared taxi — 30 – 50 ฿ per hop inside the old city, about 150 ฿ to the airport.
  • For a private songthaew trip, agree the price first: 100 – 200 ฿ for most city runs.
  • Metered taxis are few; when you find one the flag fall is 35 ฿ and trips inside the city cost 60 – 120 ฿.
  • Motorcycle taxis (win) line up at Tha Phae Gate and near the markets — 30 – 60 ฿ for short hops.

Songthaew drivers often wait until the car fills up, so allow extra time. Rain and burning-season haze push app prices up; comparing two apps usually saves 30 – 80 ฿.

Fares are estimates for normal traffic and can change with surge pricing, tolls and weather.

Common mistakes

  • Riding elephants or watching shows
  • Underestimating cold nights in winter
